Biography
Nicholas Hayes is a senior at the University of Alabama, where he majors in Applied Mathematics and German. He also did an intensive course in Swahili language and culture in Tanzania as a Boren Scholar. An ultramarathoner, he raised over $5000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation by running nearly 60 miles. Nick has interned with the US Department of State, Protagonist, the Center for Advanced Defense Studies, and NOAA (Hollings Scholar). He has published and presented research in corpus linguistics and passive acoustics. He has also published poetry and founded the first ever TEDxUniversityofAlabama conference. With the goal of studying speech/language processing technologies, Nick hopes to do the MSC in Mathematical Science and the MSt in Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics at Oxford.
